TURKISH DELIGHTS

Turkish Homewares Turkish Home Decor Bohemian homewares

We are back! After deciding on a short baby-moon getaway , Istanbul was the one place that kept popping up and we spent 4 days exploring the city with a 2 year old in toe. As much as you  hear the stories and try to avoid spending your money in the Grand Bazaar, it's pretty dam hard, the place is alluring and before you know it your doing the one thing you said you wouldn't (like us!) and buying a carpet.

Istanbul is a fascinating city, the history and mix of cultures makes for a visual exciting place to hang out and soak up all the convergence of east meets west. Here are a few little tips to share if you plan on travelling:

 - Istanbul is NOT buggy friendly, the roads are in a state and makes pushing very difficult, plus a lot of it is uphill. If you have smaller bubbas I would try for a backpack, or make use of the excellent and cheap tram system

 - February was a great time to visit, the weather was nice, not too hot and crowds minimal. Beware peak season will be very busy with attractions rammed.

- When haggling in the grand bazaar I would start at around 60% off their initial price. Be prepared with a list of what you intend to buy as it came get a little overwhelming and you can lose the plot. Have patience, take your time and if your not happy walk away. I guarantee they will come back to you with a better offer.

I came away with a couple of excellent vintage suzani's and a Turkish rug which we probably paid to much for, but hey when in Rome....!

Here are my fav homewares picks in Istanbul:

1. Vintage Turkish Kilim Rugs (we are getting these babes in stores soon so stand by)
2. Pestemal Towels (a great little companion for when you are travelling and oh so soft)
3. Turkish Coffee Pots (made for using rocket fuel!)
4. Vintage Kilim Cushions (available now in store)
5. Vintage Suzani Fabrics
6. Iznik Tiles

Happy travels if you manage to get to Turkey
